I’m a huge fan of the Iranian Government. They’ve spent the past few years building a massive surveillance apparatus that has been incredibly effective in keeping the public in the dark. We have to assume that they have access to everything.
In the days of old this kind of thing was called “black magic,” but the term is more accurate. Iran has a long history of black magic, and even more recently they’ve been able to crack down on it. One of the reasons Iran had a bad reputation was because they were so secretive about their actions. They would hide certain things so well that the average person would be completely unaware of what they were doing.
Now in the digital age we can be sure we can be sure Iran knows everything. A couple years ago they made a $1,000,000,000 deal with Microsoft to allow their spyware to record and store all of our phone calls. As a result all of the phones on the planet, except for one, have been bugged since that day.
We can now compare our phone calls to our internet searches. So Iran’s plans to spy on all of us is similar to our desire to spy on all of Iran. We both are trying to tap into a digital tap that allows us to record all our conversations and turn that information into knowledge. The difference is that Iran doesn’t have a digital tap on their own, so they have to work around the fact that their country is being monitored.
All this spying has resulted in some pretty awesome phones. One of the coolest phones has been that one that comes with a microchip that allows it to be remotely controlled with only a voice command. In Iran, it has been turned into an internet browser that can be used to watch Youtube videos, check the weather, and control your phone with just a voice command. It is pretty cool to be able to turn your phone into a surveillance device.
I think this is a pretty good example of how technology can be used to fight the bad guys. I mean, it’s not like we’re not going to have the option to turn our phones into a “kill switch” if we wanted to.
The good thing about all this new technology is that it can also be used to fight the bad guys. After using the iranian version of Google Chrome, I was able to turn my phone into a super spy device and take video of every single person who visits my website. I was also able to watch my wife as she made her way through my homepage, and take a peek at the contents of my phone.
The sad news is that iran is probably still doing this to our phones. We’re not going to be able to turn them into a kill button because I don’t think we’re going to be able to make a phone out of an atom. But we can turn our phones into a spy device by downloading the iranian version of Chrome, which is basically an app that uses the built-in camera on our phones to take video and photos.
I just got this idea from a comment on the iranian wall street journal, where a guy said, “If you look at your phone, it’s like looking at a piece of art.” But as amazing as that may sound, it’s not quite the same as actually looking at a piece of art. The point of having a phone in IRAN is to hide you from your neighbors.
Iran has started to use iPhones as spy devices. They have a special version of the browser that hides themselves from our eyes. These apps are in the app store, and if you search for “iran spy app” you’ll find plenty.
