For about five years I did not have a computer, so I didn’t have video games. When I opened the door to leave the house I would go straight for that new Xbox, or Nintendo, or Playstation. I was an introvert, I played video games with my friends, and I didn’t need any video games. I was able to play them on my own because I had no other distractions. And this was a big part of my identity.
Video games are not all bad. They are fun and are a great way to exercise your creativity. But for a lot of people, video games are a lot of work. They take a lot of your time, and if you have no other creative outlets then it is a major barrier to making progress with your game.
I like to think of myself as an introvert. I have been for a long time, but I believe that I am not alone in this. Many people have been telling me for years that video games are a mental, social, and financial drain. In a way it is. My life in general was heavily influenced by video games. I was constantly playing them. I had to have a computer and a video game to keep people occupied.
I have no complaints about video games. I love playing them. And there are a lot of great games out there. The problem is, when you’re playing video games and you are distracted by them, you are also distracted from your other important life tasks.
I have a lot of concerns about video games and I’m glad that Valve has at least made it clear that they are a mental, social, and financial drain. But in this case, my concerns are only valid if I’m playing games when I don’t have to. And for the record, I am not doing so.
I don’t think anyone can really argue with that statement.
I’ve heard plenty of people argue that video games are a “novelty” but I think it’s important to recognize that there is more to the game than the graphics and the sound. The games are so immersive that it’s hard to think that you have no control over your environment. For me, I find that having a lot of control over my environment is a big part of gaming.
I just finished playing Far Cry 3 (which I played for hours, it has a lot to do with the level design, the story line, and the combat). I was playing it on my Xbox, and then I went to bed and came back to my computer and played it on my laptop. You can actually control the entire game with a controller now, and I was playing it for hours. It was extremely immersive and immersive is not the same as a good game.
The developers of the game have done a great job of making the game feel like you’re really doing something. For me, being able to play the game without looking at the controls and seeing the animations on the screen is a big part of the experience. It’s a game without an engine, which I can’t speak about with any real authority because I don’t have one.
Yes, because games that require an engine are the only games that require an engine. That is, unless you’re trying to make a game about a game.
